Can Vitamin D Deficiency Cause Hypothyroidism?

That was the question asked by a team of researchers in Turkey, who found that people with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (hypothyroidism) were far more likely to have low blood levels of vitamin D than healthy people. They also found that those with the lowest levels of vitamin D also had the worst symptoms.

This result isn’t all that surprising, because vitamin D already has been linked to many different autoimmune diseases — and now there’s one more.
