Because a walk in the sunshine boosts your body's level of vitamin D, and a new study (reviewing 79 previous studies on the topic) found that older folks with a daily intake of at least 1,000 IU of vitamin D had a 16% lower risk of falling. So getting sunshine not only lowers the risk of osteoporosis, it also makes you more steady on your feet! The right advice? Avoid sunburn, not sunshine.
