Can Melatonin Ease Chronic Pain? New Research Suggests It May

A recent meta analysis in the journal Pain looked at 23 studies with over 2,000 people with chronic pain. Specifically, it was looking to see whether melatonin helped with chronic musculoskeletal pain and also with postoperative pain. Here’s what it found.
Although the melatonin was not helpful for postoperative pain, it was for chronic pain. Although the evidence would still be considered preliminary, the level of effectiveness was modest but similar to other analgesics, improving both sleep and pain.
Research has clearly shown that getting good sleep is critical for pain relief. Sleep triggers repair hormones such as growth hormone, while settling down inflammation.
Although not strong enough on its own for adequate pain relief, this metanalysis suggests that melatonin does offer useful benefits when combined with other pain treatments.
One quarter of adults suffer needlessly with chronic pain because of lack of physician education. Because of this, most people need to be their own advocates in getting pain relief. My newest book “Pain Relief in 4 Simple Steps” shows how to do this both easily and naturally.
In addition to optimizing sleep, balancing inflammation naturally with herbs such as curcumin and boswellia. I recommend the combination provided in Curamin®, which is a pain relief miracle for many people. Optimizing muscle energy with high-dose magnesium and B vitamins can also markedly ease pain. This can be found in my formulation, the Fatigued to Fantastic™ Energy Revitalization Drink Mix.
