Korean researchers studied 141 healthy office workers aged 20 to 49 who didn't have any diseases - but who were fatigued. Addressing them with IV vitamin C helped restore their energy. The researchers divided the workers into two groups. One group received an intravenous therapy of 10 grams of vitamin C and the other didn't. Two hours later, the folks getting C felt a lot more energetic, and they also were less fatigued the next day. The non-C group didn't notice any difference. The people who got the most benefit from vitamin C were those who had the lowest blood levels of vitamin C before the therapy.

Vitamin E Low in CFS

Vitamin E levels (serum alpha-tocopherol concentrations) were measured in 50 patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and 40 control subjects (Controls). Those with CFS had significantly lower vitamin E levels than those without CFS. The authors conclude "CFS [patients] had significantly lower alpha-tocopherol concentrations irrespective of coronary risk factors than Controls, suggesting the presence of increased oxidative stress in CFS."

Vision Problems in CFS and Fibromyalgia

Published: August 9, 2012

Vision problems are a common issue in both the general population and those with CFS/FMS. In CFS/FMS, it usually reflects as blurred vision caused by rapidly changing visual acuity (ability to focus). People often note that they get an eyeglass prescription, only to have it no longer be accurate by the time they get their glasses made. This occurs because the fluid in your eyes and the lens in your eye, and the strength of the muscles which allow the lens and pupils to focus can change minute to minute as your thyroid and adrenal (and associated blood sugar) levels fluctuate. In fact, some doctors use the inability of your pupil to stay consistently constricted when a light is shined on your eyes as a measure of adrenal weakness.

Addressing Low Blood Volume and Decreased Heart Function in CFS

In this important article we will discuss a critical but usually overlooked part of addressing CFS and fibromyalgia effectively. It can be relatively easy to address, but is not very glamorous, and is therefore often forgotten. We will focus on new research by Dr. Barry Hurwitz and a team of University of Miami researchers, including Dr. Nancy Klimas, who is wonderful and one of my favorite people in the CFS community (though I sometimes disagree with her, I've always had enormous appreciation and respect for her).

Addressing Cognitive Dysfunction ("Brain Fog") in CFS & Fibromyalgia

Published: August 8, 2012

Brain fog can sometimes be the scariest part of the illness for some—especially professionals that had been functioning at a very high level. Though standard testing will often not pick up the problem (nor is it designed to), in some cases the brain fog makes it hard or even impossible to continue one's job. In other cases, brain fog can be mild.

Statins, Coenzyme Q10, and Pregnenolone for Addressing CFS

New research suggests that statins might have a very helpful antiviral effect at high dose, and they may even hold promise as an effective new therapy for CFS and fibromyalgia if special (and simple) precautions are added in. The new theory I will present today also offers new possibilities for helpful and easy testing and therapy, while offering an understanding of a large new piece of the CFS/FMS puzzle.

Although time will tell how big a role this new concept will play in CFS, it offers simple testing and therapy that can be helpful NOW!
