Healing Nerve Discomfort

Forty-three percent of people with conditions associated with widespread pain, fatigue and insomnia also have nerve discomfort or other neurological issues. Unfortunately, few doctors are trained in effectively treating nerve pain, and even less in how to help the nerves heal.
Fortunately, research shows that a straightforward recipe can markedly decrease nerve discomfort and speed nerve healing. But healing nerves takes time, so give these at least three months to start working. Effects increase over time.
Neuropathy Recipe
I presume that the person has already been evaluated for the cause(s) of their nerve pain, including low B12, CRPS/RSD, low thyroid, diabetes, shingles, and other possible causes. After that, the key recipe I use to start is as follows.
Nerve Pain Recipe
- Lipoic acid 600 mg a day to help the nerves to heal directly.
- PEA 600 mg 2x daily for 1 month then twice a day to address the microglial activation that often drives this pain.
- Energy Revitalization Drink Mix to address the numerous nutritional deficiencies that may contribute to nerve and other pain.
For those with neuropathy from chemotherapy, it is especially important to add acetyl L-carnitine 1,000 milligrams twice a day. It may help other forms of neuropathy but is less important.
These take three months to truly show what their benefits will be. Because of this, I combine them, though they often start working more quickly. They can also be combined with other neuropathy medications.
For those not drinking the drink mix above, an excellent product called "Healthy Feet and Nerves" by Terry Naturally® includes both the lipoic acid and other key nutrients needed for nerve healing.
If not taking narcotics, then it can be very helpful if your doctor can prescribe the low-dose naltrexone (see the attached information sheet) and also call in a prescription to a specialty pharmacy that makes nerve pain creams (ITC Pharmacy 303-663-4263). Physicians can simply authorize the pharmacist (the doctor’s staff should simply ask for the pharmacist Allan Jolly RPh who is incredibly knowledgeable in this) to work directly with the patient in putting together a topical pain cream that addresses their symptoms. The pharmacist can also compound and guide you on the use of the LDN.

- My book chapter on neuropathy from my book “Pain Free 1-2-3” offers an organized protocol for which medications to begin with, and the order to try them in. As well as the caution to start with a low dose and work up as is comfortable to avoid side effects. The neuropathy book chapter was written a while ago, so the PEA and other treatments update what is in the chapter.
- LDN Info Sheet.
- PEA Info Sheet.
- If you have CRPS, you can ask for that information sheet as well.
It's time for you to get pain free!
