Dear Dr. T,

Does fibromyalgia cause tenderness in the abdomen that happens when pressed on and some intermittent pains when it is not pressed on? I also have nausea and tenderness along the front of my ribs. My doctor is treating me for fibromyalgia even though my rheumatologist told me about five years ago that I didn't have it. I have places all over me that are tender and flare up. Mine keeps getting worse. I appreciate you answering. Thank you.

Answer

Abdominal and chest pains are common in FMS. If pushing on the chest over a rib where it hurts reproduces the pain, it suggests muscle pain.
